William Wolffe BIO

Story-first images built to move people.

Madrid-born and Los Angeles-based, I shoot, direct, and refine stories with disciplined visuals, fast setups, and a steadiness that keeps crews calm and performances protected.

From Madrid radio to Los Angeles sets

I came up through national radio and TV in Spain, moved to Los Angeles in 2009, and spent a decade inside advertising and film before Anthony E. Zuicker’s Yahoo! project led to my first feature as director of photography.

Layover was shot for $6,000 and still earned festival recognition in Seattle and Montreal, proving that smart constraints and committed crews can punch far above their weight.

Influenced by Stanley Kubrick, Roger Deakins, the Coen Brothers, Terry Gilliam, Sam Raimi, Steven Spielberg, Sam Peckinpah, Sergio Leone, and Christopher Nolan. Fluent in efficient shooting, quick setups, LED lighting, and digital filmmaking. Trained as a director, cinematographer, writer, voice actor, and story editor / script consultant.

Approach

Images built for narrative and performance.

  • Story clarity first—every shot supports the beat and the actor.
  • Schedule-aware lighting plans that protect momentum.
  • Calm, repeatable on-set systems that keep teams aligned.

Early pull toward story

I’ve always been fascinated by human behavior and the stories that reveal it. As a kid I imagined life as a commando or detective—until I realized it was the narrative, not the job, that moved me. That curiosity led me to write my first script before college and commit to storytelling for good.

Formal training

In college I immersed myself in journalism, history, literature, art, astronomy, philosophy, advertising, and mass communication alongside film craft. Five years of studying how stories work—across mediums and eras—built the toolkit I use on set and in the edit to make each beat matter.
